The tariffs proposed in HB 5218 (2007) are equivalent to those in Germany and the highest in North America.

* Hydro less than 500 kW: $0.10 USD/kWh
* Biogas less than 150 kW: $0.145 USD/kWh
* Geothermal less than 5 MW: $0.19 USD/kWh
* Wind: $0.105 USD/kWh
* Wind energy from small wind turbines: $0.25 USD/kWh(1)
* Rooftop solar less than 30 kW: $0.65 USD/kWh
* Solar façade cladding less than 30 kW: $0.71 USD/kWh

If passed into law and signed by the Governor, HB 5218 (2007) will push Michigan to the forefront of renewable energy policy in North America, surpassing that of Ontario, Michigan’s Canadian neighbor. :)

Paul, did this bill pass?
Those are indeed good rates. I'd love to see that happen here. It would jumpstart RE. Even though Ontario has "the most progressive rates in North America" as someone put it, they fall short of being sufficient at current RE prices. I know economic payback isn't everything, but that's what most people look at and at current rates that's well over 20 years for solar in southern Ontario. Wind depends on local wind speeds, but that too is long even in moderately windy places.

Is 65 cents/kWh the German feed-in rate? I haven't looked up what they have over there (in fact, they also have an installation rebate I believe). It's working there though. When I traveled through Germany last summer it was amazing to see PV panels everywhere. Entire barn roofs (tens of kWs), church roofs etc.

Hi Rob ..I'm unsure if the Michigan bill was passed. The guy Verner I talked to at a family BBQ here 2 years ago siad he had 3Kw on his roof in Germany and he was getting $0.60 a Kw and a panel install loan from the government at 0% Plus they paid for half the install.I don't remember all the details other than it was a Sweet Deal non the less.....:)
