hey, I was wondering if anyone has heard anything about a US company that is selling 120 ro 240 volt AC solar panels. They say they are "Plug and Play" into an outside 120 volt socket. Let me know if its possable...their site is www.spinrayenergy.com

Hi Art, welcome to the forum!
Looking at their Web site: This seems to be a regular module with a micro-inverter hooked up to it. At $3.95 per Watt it's not particularly cheap. The other part is that code in the US and Canada has a number of requirements for energy sources connected to the grid, such as an AC disconnect mounted near the meter. Most places also require a net-metering agreement with the utility. In short, while this may work, it doesn't make it legal without quite a bit of additional effort.

The units I have seen are non UL (or equivalent agency) approved - meaning they can not be connected to the grid legally.

Homeowners insurance in the US also calls for UL approved equipment - so no insurance if the insurer figures it out.

Connect in to the grid on an outlaw basis and if the utility figures it out you are in a world of hurt and most likely have a big hassle trying to get your home reconnected.
