Hello All,
We have installed our first new type of Hummer generator in Holland
We put it on-grid with a Aurora 6000 and it works wonderfull.
The generator has no tail but a moterized yaw system
when it measured 14 MS the generator turns for 45 degrees
also when the voltage goes over 300 volts it will turn away.
So far it works great.

Looks great Cor.

I'm wondering if you could point out the benefits of the Hummer generator and tell why someone would want it compared to others.

Also, since you have a lot of experience with wind power, I was wondering if you knew whether or not the wind generator will ever pay for itself and how many years does it normally take?

If not, how much more expensive is it, would you say, to use a wind generator as compared to paying for power from the grid.

Hello Brian,

The Hummer 5Kw system is nice for off-grid use
Put it on to the grid gives some hard times.
But after some experiments we managed to do it.

The electric yawing system is completely in oil and that works fine
The generator to blades connection is very big
so the blades are mounted with "a lot of flesh" that makes the connection strong
The generator it self is separated from the yaw
if the generator would mallfunction in the far future it can be easy replaced.

minus points

The electric yawing , wind direction and speed measurement electronics are stored under the hood of the generator.
I would like it more when all electronics are on ground level

The offgrid inverter/charger must have 180 volts battery to start up.
If less then 180 volts the complete system will not work.

To get this unit on-grid you have to fake the battery voltage on the input

The system has no Dumpload !!!!
I put a self regulating dumpload system of 8kw on trigger level 300 volts on the generator output. because i do not want to blow The Inverter.
This makes the system some more expensive as stated in the pricelists.

The manual of the turbine differs a little from the real world
The output voltage at rated speed of 10ms is about 280 volts
But the generator can overspeed very easy and then it will go up to 800 volts
It is not so easy to tame this animal.
The 5kw generator can go up to 6,5 KW
on about 300 volts this will be 21 amps ON SINGLE PHASE INPUT
and I can tell you that is a lot of power ( this is not a toy)
When the generator is in overspeed it is impossible to brake it
you must turn it out of the wind to get the speed within limits.

But in normal working conditions the controller will do this automatic.

So conclusion,
This is a good generator but has a difficult set-up and needs professional guidance.
it makes a little bit more noise because of the single phase setup

Hey Cor,
Hummer is not honoring there warranty any suggestions?:wondering:
