View Full Version : Wind Generators - just a science experiment?

I am looking for input about reliable wind generators < 5kW to make up a hybrid power system for our house in Prince Edward County. We are short of sun in November and December but there is lots of wind - maybe too much. Any recommendations from first hand experience? I am worried a bit about noise and reliability in high winds. Thanks!

Hi Peter,

Welcome to Green Power Talk!
I know quite a few people in PEC, been there a number of times too. Great place!

What exactly do you mean by "hybrid"? Is this grid-tied, with some battery backup? Does the turbine have to charge batteries, or will it be grid-tied? As you maybe know my business imports a 6kW, the Eoltec Scirocco (http://www.solacity.com/Scirocco.htm). A bit large for what you're looking for, but it does work very well indeed, and holds up just fine at very high wind speeds (it was originally designed for Orkney Island in the Atlantic, which sees much more extreme winds than PEC). Of course, I'm a bit biased... :)
