You can find a number of wind related links at the Solacity site (http://www.solacity.com/Links.htm). Right now they are a bit Canada oriented, I'm planning to either update the ones at the Solacity site or made a separate 'links' page for the GPT forum.

Attached to this post is a spreadsheet to calculate energy production for a wind turbine. The spreadsheet comes pre-loaded with a large number of popular wind turbines and is easy to extend with others.

Thank you for posting the spreadsheet. Putting these comparisons in one place is very handy.:D

Here's a link to watch for next few months:

http://www.nrel.gov/wind/smallwind/independent_testing.html

The NREL is durability- and performance-testing several models of small + medium wind turbines.

The Mariah Windspire report is out already. They finished with it because the mfr had to pull it from the test - wasting the NREL's money. It's worth downloading for the comedy value, and there are also some lessons to be learned for anybody who thinks more power = more energy.

The other WTs are doing much much better, and the results from the ARE 442 are due out soon. There is preliminary data from each and it's curious to compare.

OK, since we are talking about wind related links, can I mention my own web site?

Shameless plug starts now....

My site is http://www.thebackshed.com, and apart from a few other topics, is mostly about RE and wind power.

The site has lots of articles about wind power, controllers, etc. And a few of my forum members now sell windmill parts on the site, including extruded PVC or aluminium blades.

End shameless plug.

Thanks

Glenn

Hi Glen,

Good to see you at GPT again! Feel free to plug your site here, I have much respect for what you're doing over at The Back Shed. There has been a link to your site up on the Solacity links page (to which the top post in this thread refers) for some years. Hopefully it has brought some people to your site.

Lately it has been a bit quiet over here at Green Power Talk. In part my own doing, time to respond to posts is in short supply as solar PV has been going crazy here in Ontario due to the new feed-in-tariff. The other part is that we seem to have lost the hardcore group of posters and personal friends that would produce the bulk of the threads and replies. Hopefully it will pick up again at some point.

Have fun over there!

Thanks Rob.

Yeah I drop in here from time to time, its good to see what others are up to.

There will be a few interesting windmill developments on my site in the next few months, I'll keep you posted.

Glenn,

Just checked out your site and that stuff is really cool. We are just getting into the green energy and alternative sources, but it is truly amazing to see what we humans take for granted everyday. I like your ideas. I live in a rather windy state myself and have noticed that more and more people here are installing wind turbines. It will be intersting to try to make one myself.
