So after 18 months of flawlessly running my house, My homemade transformer shorted on one of the 240v windings, was dubious of the wire i used originally, so got more out of it than I expected. So back to drawing board. Had a 10kw transformer Wound by DYNE in Melbourne 4 years ago for a PJ that my brother in law has since replaced with a " smarter " selectronic inverter. The voltages are a bit high for the eg8010 ( 32 vs 28 ) so i reduced the voltage to 225v out, to compensate hopefully ( we will wait and see). Spent a good three days putting it together and ive got to say pretty happy so far... its only early days but.. wife cooked dinner pulling 4kw for about half an hour or so and the fan didn't even ramp up at all ( set to start ramping at 40°c, sat at max 39 for the whole time ).
Here's some pics if anyone interested...

Pretty neat Glen! Rare to see a DIY inverter...
What do you use for the "guts" of the inverter? The logic board and such?
There is a thread on Fieldlines forum about a DIY inverter, where they take a chinese logic board, add on a DIY MOSFET board, and hand-wound transformer. Is yours based on that?

Its based around the EG8010 chip, yes very similar to that particular one, in fact " Oztules " and " clockman " have been an invaluable help setting up the original inverter. Ive stuck with a pre-made logic / mosfet board ( lazy I know ). I do have a selectronic 6kw ( as you can see in the pics) and a Chinese 5kw as backups, both very capable units, however I was never fully happy with them, so went my own way. My original was a oil cooled 5kw toroidal transformer (very conservative rated) using the same setup.
