Is it worth it? Does anyone know anything about this? Make sure you see the word doc also.

Worth it if you have an electric car!
Does this one need to be connected to a network, and uses authorization of some type (ie. meant for payment)? If that's the case it may not work without a subscription/contract with the network provider. If it's just a 'dumb' charger then you should be fine. These L2 chargers just hook up to 240V.

The L2 charger we have here was $3,800; on a pedestal, outdoor rated etc. Ours is of the managed type though, which adds to the price.

I will find out when I get it. I think it does take payment of some kind but I do electronics and hack for a living so I am confident I can bypass/eliminate/make that work.
I was thinking that when my company moves to a new building which we are searching for and someone gets an electric vehicle we could put it there for that vehicle. Charging at work makes the most sense to help balance out that "duck curve" as opposed to charging at home at night and having to use power plant power.
My big question is if the charging plug that goes into the car is the standard/most used one.

Spec says SAE J1772 plug, that is indeed the most-used one for L2 charging. I think all of today's cars have that one. For L3 chargers the battle is still raging, with two competing plugs.

Agreed on hacking it. L2 charging is pretty simple stuff, just 240V AC. An extension wire could do it (of course a nice charger on a pedestal looks much better!).
