View Full Version : regulator for single phase turbine?

Hi everyone.
The regulator of our rutland 910 single phase wind turbine broke a while back and we're looking to get a new one fitted. It might sound a stupid question but could we use any regulator designed for a three phase turbine? we're living off grid on a 12v system and are looking to charge either gel or normal led acid leisure batteries with it.
Thanks

Hi Manu,

It would depend a bit on what the regulator does: The charge controlling part can certainly be taken over by a regular charge controller (TriStar for example, in diversion mode). I assume it also has a rectifier in it to turn AC to DC for the batteries, that can be replaced too. Most wind controllers also take care of turbine related matters, such as possibly switching on a dump load etc. (though for battery charging that may not be needed, depends on the turbine). That part would be more difficult to replace.
